Off to a good start. The first of our Meet Our Local Leaders series went well this morning . Amy Kirwin, a true San Marcos leader, joined us on this Lower Purgatory hike. The weather was nice. Before heading out on the trail, Rob introduced Amy and we got to know her a bit. Several hikers were able to engage Amy in conversation under these ideal, relaxed conditions. We observed conditions on the trails and discussed what the city could do to improve things. Much discussion centered on the graffiti we observed in this natural area. Counting Amy, we had about fifteen hikers at this event. Following the hike, some of us went across the street to Henry’s for breakfast and a relaxed, productive conversation. Yes, the first of our Meet Our Local Leaders series went well this morning. Thanks Amy. It was fun sharing some time with you. This was a joint hike of the San Marcos Area Trail Walkers and Conserve San Marcos, both Meetups. About Amy: In addition to being our Solid Waste Coordinator where she oversees the Keep San Marcos Beautiful Program, Amy chairs the board of Sustainable San Marcos. She has also served as president of the SM Council of Neighborhood Associations (CONA). Our Meetup group is working with Amy in the Adopt-a-Spot trash pick-up project (we hope to adopt a spot).
