Officers are warning shoppers to be vigilant against a fraudulent scheme in the Peterhead area of Aberdeenshire. The incidents occurred during the afternoons of Saturday 12 April and Saturday 19 April 2014 within the shopping precincts of Peterhead. Customers were offered items including mobile phones, tablets and laptops at bargain prices. The perpetrators took cash payment for these goods but handed over holdalls containing low value items such as catalogues or bottles of water. As a result of these incidents, a middle three figure sum of money has been defrauded. Police Scotland are keen to trace two males within a Blue Ford Mondeo seen in the Peterhead area on the above dates. The males are described as Scottish, with one having a distinctive V shape scar on one of his cheeks. Investigating Officer, PC Stuart Stevenson said, We are warning people to be wary against this type of crime in particular where the goods offered seem unusually cheap. Do not hand over money if you have any doubts about the origin of the goods or the authenticity of the seller. Report any suspicious activity to Police on 101. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.
