Those of us living in the Interior might not know or care that sea creatures are sick, dying or disappearing at an alarming rate all along the Pacific coast. There are dying oysters, bleeding herring, melting star fish, hungry Orcas and sick seals. The latest are dead seabirds… Some blame ocean acidification for the devastation, others wonder if it’s radiation fallout from Fukushima. Whatever, it might be helpful to find the cause before all the creatures are gone. University of California Santa Barbara, Jan 15, 2015: A consortium of scientists, including UC Santa Barbara’s Douglas McCauley, has found that the same patterns that led to the collapse of wildlife populations on land are now occurring in the sea… Their findings are published today in the journal Science… “All signs indicate that we may be initiating a marine industrial revolution,” [McCauley] said. “We are setting ourselves up in the oceans to replay the process of wildlife Armageddon that we engineered on land.” New York Times, Jan 15, 2015: A team of scientists… has concluded that humans are on the verge of causing unprecedented damage to the oceans and the animals living in them. “We may be sitting on a precipice of a major extinction event,” said Douglas J. Science — ‘Marine defaunation: Animal loss in the global ocean’, Jan 16, 2014: Loss of species in marine environments… appears to be increasing rapidly. Report comment vital1 vital1 January 18, 2015 at 5:14 pm Log in to Reply In my opinion it is not just the radioactive contamination from Fukushima directly poisoning the sea, and causing the large die offs. It is a combination of interrelated factors. Everything is interconnected. The Toxicity multiplying effect. North Pacific Ocean water is now a mixture of toxic industrial chemicals washed out to sea during the tsunami, and a verity of Radioactive isotopes, not just Cesium, but also Tritium, Strontium, Americium, and Plutonium, etc. This added to the toxins that were already there. A single toxin in the environment can be a hazard, and maybe an organisms natural biological defense systems can deal with this effectively. If an organism has other toxins present radiological and chemical, to deal with at the same time, you get a biological toxicity multiplying effect. The human or animal defense systems becomes weaker the more toxins it has to deal with. Atmosphere damaged. Extreme UV levels are now being detected in both Northern and Southern Hemisphere, spring and summer. I am suggesting that the increase in Northern hemisphere UV has been caused by atmosphere damage from the large amount of ionizing radiation released into the Northern Hemisphere upper atmosphere, by the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster. Extract: Aquatic wildlife is particularly vulnerable Phytoplankton are at the start of the aquatic food chain, which account for 30 per cent of the worlds intake of animal protein. Report comment vital1 vital1 January 18, 2015 at 5:19 pm Log in to Reply Phytoplankton productivity is restricted to the upper layer of the water where sufficient light is available. However, even at current levels, solar UV-B radiation limits reproduction and growth. A small increase in UV-B exposure could significantly reduce the size of plankton populations, which affects the environment in two ways. With less organic matter in the upper layers of the water, UV radiation can penetrate deeper into the water and affect more complex plants and animals living there. Solar UV radiation directly damages fish, shrimp, crab, amphibians and other animals during their early development. Pollution of the water by toxic substances may heighten the adverse effects of UV radiation, working its way up the food chain. Furthermore less plankton means less food for the animals that prey on them and a reduction in fish stocks, already depleted by overfishing. Weather Changes: A lot of Kryton-85 was released by the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster. Extract: The study shows that krypton-85 from nuclear fission enhances air ionization and, thus, interferes with the atmospheric-electrical system and the water balance of the earth atmosphere. Report comment vital1 vital1 January 18, 2015 at 5:29 pm Log in to Reply If Krypton-85 continues to increase, changes in such atmospheric processes and properties as atmospheric electric conductivity, ion current, the Earths magnetic field, formation of cloud condensation nuclei and 57 aerosols, and frequency of lightning may result and thus disturb the Earths heat balance and precipitation patterns. The Fukushima Nuclear Disaster is continuing: A 1992 German risk study of a NPP core melt down on the upper Rhine river concluded that. 1. Strontium-90 levels would skyrocket, and reach a peak levels around 5,000 days later. Strontium-90 levels would then stay high for around another 40,000 days + ! 2. Cesium-137 would reach peak levels after 10,000 days. Interestingly, Tepco has has tried to implemented the counter measures suggested in this document, at the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster site. They have not had much success so far. (Note: that the charts in this document are log scale.) irpa.net/irpa8/cdrom/VOL.1/M1_97.PDF So if this study is correct, these increase will continue long into the future! Since 1993, however, average sea level has risen at a rate of 0.11 to 0.12 inches per year—roughly twice as fast as the long-term trend. • “Relative sea level rose along much of the U.S. coastline between 1960 and 2013, particularly the Mid-Atlantic coast and parts of the Gulf coast, where some stations registered increases of more than 8 inches (see Figure 2). Meanwhile, relative sea level fell at some locations in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. At those sites, even though absolute sea level has risen, land elevation has risen more rapidly. • “While absolute sea level has increased steadily overall, particularly in recent decades, regional trends vary, and absolute sea level has decreased in some places. 2 Relative sea level also has not risen uniformly because of regional and local changes in land movement and long-term changes in coastal circulation patterns….” epa.gov/climatechange/science/indicators/oceans/sea-level.html Report comment Praising the Truth Praising the Truth January 18, 2015 at 7:35 pm Log in to Reply Nuclear Industry And CFC Global Warming Gases agreenroad.blogspot/2014/05/nuclear-industry-and-cfc-global-warming.html Report comment Praising the Truth Praising the Truth January 18, 2015 at 7:37 pm Log in to Reply Nuclear Energy as a Direct Cause Of Global Warming, Acid Rain, Acid Oceans And Super Storms “There is not just ONE way that nuclear energy is creating global warming and climate change, there are MANY ways that the nuclear industry causes global warming….” agreenroad.blogspot/2013/12/nuclear-energy-as-direct-cause-of.html Report comment ChasAha ChasAha January 18, 2015 at 7:32 pm Log in to Reply That is a nice Earth graphic. Now we never seen a full meltdown of a reactor before . Chernobyl was one third the size of any of the Fukushima three 100 percent melted reactors .And Chernobyl was a 30 percent meltdown that killed over a million . Unit 3 at Fukushima was Mox fuel , its considered 2 million times worst than any other reactor on earth . That makes unit 3 eighteen million times worst than Chernobyl . Those elements killed the basic of the food chain because they can,t bio accumulate and killed the nursery of the ocean the tidal pools and tidal zones . They are missing same as the 300 plus species of migratory and residential birds because they use to feed in the tidal zones . When you knock out the basic of the food chain ummm yeaaa . I hope things can turn around but I dont see how. The deniers show up here and claim Fukushima was nothing, no problemo, these alarmist nuts are saying the oceans are dying, but they are all fine! Truly, you are a singular voice of sanity for many of us. Heartbreaking, cant believe it, what we are doing. Report comment You must be logged in to post a comment.
