Official notice being sent out today! Please share with anyone you know who may benefit from this group. My name is Leesa and nearly five years ago we lost a full term baby. I was 9 months and 4 days pregnant when I was told our daughter was dead. It has been a long hard road but I finally feel peace in my heart and as if my experience can and should benefit other families. With a great deal of thought and prayer I decided to take upon the challenge of starting a local chapter of The Compassionate Friends, with a specific group for families who have lost a child due to miscarriage, stillbirth, and perinatal loss. Anyone who has had a child die in their family is invited to an informal meeting on October 21, 2014 in Valdosta with the intent of eventually establishing a local chapter of The Compassionate Friends, a nonprofit self-help bereavement support organization for families that have experienced the death of a child. When a child dies, at any age, the family suffers intense pain and may feel hopeless and isolated. The Compassionate Friends provides highly personal comfort, hope, and support to every family experiencing the death of a son or a daughter, a brother or a sister, or a grandchild, and helps others better assist the grieving family. Today more than 650 chapters serving all 50 states plus Washington D.C., Guam and Puerto Rico offer friendship, understanding, and hope to bereaved parents, siblings, and grandparents during the natural grieving process after a child has died. The nearest chapter to Valdosta is in Tallahassee. The meeting will be from 6:00p.m. - 8:00p.m. in the administrative offices of Hospice of South Georgia; 2263 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, Ga. For more information, call Leesa at 229.412.0522. To learn more about The Compassionate Friends, visit their national website at compassionatefriends.org. Please share this information as a group such as this can only grow and develop with a great deal of support from the community, churches, hospitals, friends and family. We want to help families get through this time in their lives and as the holidays approach it is even more important for us to be available. Your support is greatly appreciated Thank you, Leesa Williams
