Often I see arguments about biblical interpretations in the Herald - TopicsExpress

Often I see arguments about biblical interpretations in the Herald or Weekend Post (for instance Bruce Woolard comments on Peter Woods). I personally do not have a literal interpretation and would like to put the following forward as a very partial explanation as to why: In "A Basic Introduction to the New Testament" edited by Robert Walton we read that early Christians believed that the would be an early second coming as did Paul when he wrote that not all of them would die (1 Cor 15:51) before this Day. In 2 Cor 1.9 it seems Paul realised he might die before the second coming and from that time little was heard about this expected event. In 2 Peter (probably the latest of the New Testament books), in an attempt to explain why Jesus had not come again, it is stated that a thousand years is like one day to God. Do people, who preach that the Day is near, have the same sort of erroneous thinking as the early Christians?
