The cost is Php20,000 (approximately US$455) to help one fisherman and provide him with a motorized banca designed specifically for the waters where he normally fishes. Q. Arent bancas or fishing boats cheaper than Php20,000? A. While a nonmotorized banca without outriggers can cost as low as Php8,000-15,000, a motor and outriggers allow the fishermen to safely cover a larger area and bring home a larger catch while exerting less effort. The sum of Php20,000 provides a fisherman with a motorized banca with outriggers. A portion of the donation also goes to: environment conservation training for fishermen providing the beneficiary household with daily Mingo meals for six months (visit nvcfoundation-ph.org/projects/nutrition-program for more information about Mingo) maintaining an ongoing relationship with the fishermen beneficiaries to ensure that the boat is truly serving its purpose of sustaining his livelihood.
