Often in life we come across many people who have helped us, made our lives better and taught us good lessons. They may or may not be family but are truly cherished. On Thanksgiving Day we express our gratitude towards them. The history of thanksgiving begins in 1620 when a group of people set sail from England in hope of finding a new land to settle. They later became the founding pilgrims of USA. After many hardships and losing most of their people, they started afresh at Plymouth. With renewed hope they built homes and planted crops. When they first reaped their harvest in 1621, they dedicated a day for thanking the lord. Even after so much suffering, they were able to sustain a new life with God’s blessing, so they wanted to thank him for everything. From then onwards, with different and on varied dates, this day is celebrated. President Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving Day as a national holiday. It is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November in America, with festive meals, parades, football, family and friends and turkey meal. For each, it may mean different things, but the intention is to thank for every good thing happened and treasured relations and people, and above all God for giving us this life.
