Often its valuable to speak directly to an artist to get a very personal and clearer insight into what inspires them to create individual artworks. For todays Artwork of the Day, Melanie Baulch has been kind enough to share what has inspired her to create her abstract painting, Life Be In It. This painting comprises excerpts from a busy modern life. I drew a grid of 52 panels on canvas representing 52 weeks of a year. In each small panel I then painted fragmented shapes and lines from drawings and artwork I had done throughout the previous year. I then connected these with new lines, shapes, tone sand colours to form an overall harmonious image representing a year of busy past activity. Like anyones year. Anyone and everyones life …. a complete picture involving people, moods, exercise, health, joy, sadness, feelings, relationships, objects, debts, goals etc All the things that constitute a busy modern life. My life. Your life. And I reflected that to me, overall in a year. life is pretty good. despite the small downs we may have and that we just have to be in it, keep on going and to take it easy! I first painted it in very bright colours but then changed the palette to a cooler one to evoke more of a reflective mood. Melanie Baulch
