This is why I think its very important to watch the pattern at which someone changes over their first few weeks. With experience you can often tell if someone holds onto muscle well, or if youre going to have to be quite conservative when you make dietary changes along the journey. With someone who holds onto muscle well, you can often get away with making quite aggressive changes. When you do, you can expect to see substantial drops in body fat each week, with lean mass remaining in tact. However, when you use aggressive strategies with someone who struggles to hold onto muscle, youll notice large weight drops (lean mass) and minimal fat loss. When someone struggles to hold onto muscle, expect your prep time to be longer than your standard 12 to 16 weeks. Be happy with smaller drops in body fat each week, as this helps minimise muscle loss.
