Ogun NULGE faults govt’s claim of payment of teachers THE Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has faulted the state government over claim to be responsible for the payment of primary school teachers’ salaries to the tune of N2 billion. In a statement signed by the state chairman, Comrade Ayuba Olatunji, the union frowned at a news credited to the state Commissioner for Finance,Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, on a private radio station in Abeokuta, saying that an average of 70 per cent accrued to local governments in the state through the State/Local Joint Allocation Account is being used for paying the teachers. The union called on the state government to reduce the burden of payment of primary school teachers’ salaries from local governments. It said, “NULGE, Ogun State chapter frowned at the news credited to the Finance Commissioner - Mrs. Kemi Adeosun relayed on Rock City FM (101.9) at 2:00pm on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 that Ogun State Government is responsible for the payment of primary school teachers’ salaries to the tune of over N2 billion as against the current practice of deducting same from Local Government allocations through the State/Local Joint Allocation Account. “ An amount gulping an average of 70 per cent of the total allocation accruing to Ogun State Local Governments. In view of the foregoing, NULGE hereby calls on the state government to reduce the burden of payment of Primary School Teachers’ Salaries from the Local Governments and take up her responsibilities as enshrined in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended and in consonance with the Supreme Court judgment of 2002.” Source: Nigerian Tribune
