The teachers were disengaged after completion of the one-year contract under the Federal Government Teaching Scheme (FTS). The Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, Mufutau Akintola, said on Thursday in Abeokuta that the absorbed teachers are now to be deployed to fill existing vacancies in the 20 Local Government Areas of the state. Mr. Akintola, while presenting the letters to the teachers at the boards headquarters in Abeokuta, said additional 100 teachers, who specialize in Arabic language were also employed so as to reduce the deficit in the sector. He added that the teachers were selected purely on merit after writing compulsory examinations, and urged them to reciprocate the good gesture of the state government by remaining resolute and committed in the discharge of their delegated duties. He described the midas touch of the government in the education sector as unparalleled. Two of the newly employed teachers, Ayo Orunsolu and Philip Abiodun in their separate reactions, expressed their profound gratitude to the state government for believing in their abilities and cushioning the effect of the hardship they went through after their disengagement.
