Oh, Im embarassed...I didnt actually mention what St. Martins day was, did I? Well, I found a goose, so I can tell you now. This is the day that we remember Martin of Tours. When I was a child, we would create paper lanterns and walk through town in a processional, following a horse and rider, who would reenact the story of St. Martin giving his cloak to a beggar. The goose is for dinner. Legend has it that the people of Tours wanted to ordain St. Martin as a bishop. Martin, being a humble man who rejected such material comforts, did not feel he was worthy of the position and fled, eventually hiding among a flock of geese. Of course, geese are not quiet animals, and Martin was found rather quickly and ordained as planned. .I am told that in America, this day is for honoring soldiers. I admit that my knowledge of these things is not extensive, but because I work in America now, I will do my best to support both cultural ideas.
