Oh My! A future star for UCONN Womens Basketball is currently playing for the USA under-17 womens basketball team at the world championships in Pilsen, Czech Republic - and can this young lady play basketball. In the first quarter of the game, Katie Lou Samuelson, currently a high school player, has made 5 out of 7 three point shots. Yes, you read correctly, 5 out of 7, three-pointers in the FIRST QUARTER. She is tall, 63 and she is lean like Breanna Stewart, and she is quick, like Moriah Jefferson. She releases the ball as quickly as, if not quicker than, Maya Moore did for UCONN. She also has a quick release like KML currently does. really dont remember ever seeing anyone receive the ball and release it with such deadly accuracy as Katie Lou has done so far in this semi-final game. The announcers covering todays game keep talking about Katie Lous wingspan, so maybe when she joins UCONN next year - with Breanna Stewart playing her last season - UCONN will have two star players with huge wingspans. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis will be playing her last year at UCONN this fall while Katie Lou Samuelson will be playing her last year of high school ball for Mater Dei in California. So, UCONN will not lose a beat in the three-point department, as Katie Lou, who might probably be known as KLS, will step in for Kaleena, who has been fondly known as KML during her UCONN career. For those who do not follow high school basketball, Mater Dei is to girls high school basketball as to what UCONN is to womens college basketball. Katies two older sisters, one who also played Mater Dei, are currently playing for Stanford - UCONNs west coast arch rival, but Katie wanted to do her own thing - saying that she wanted to play for the best coach and play on the best team. From what I have read, Katie Lou is rumored to be the best player of the three sisters - and that is saying a lot - considering her sisters, Bonnie and Karlie are stars for the Stanford Cardinal. Their dad is 66 and their mother is 511. In 2013, Katie Lou, while playing for the USA U-16 team, shot 8 for 8 from the three point line, leading the USA team to the championship with 24 points. Not this fall, but next falls UCONN womens team might be the best UCONN team EVER - and that is saying a lot considering the likes of Bird, Taurasi, Moore, Charles, KML, Stewie, Dolson, Lobo, Bascom, Sales, Elliott, Rizzoti, Wolters, Cash, Williams, Jones, and Abrosimova. Golly, I hope I did not forget one. The 2015-2016 team will have 65 Butler, a sophomore, who just transferred from Georgetown to UCONN, 64 Breanna Stewart, who will be a senior, and 63 Katie Lou, a freshman, along with other top notch starters and a deep bench of 8 - 9 other high quality players, including Williams, Ekmark, Nurse, Edwards, Collier and Boykin. In addition, the 2015-16 season will also have Tuck, Jefferson, and Chong. For once, in a long, long, time, UCONN will have depth to go along with outstanding height, 3-point firepower and fast-break prowess. During the 2015-2016 season, the only team that might beat UCONN is the UCONN bench.
