Oh... Thats gonna leave a mark... The Common Peroneal Nerve.. - TopicsExpress

Oh... Thats gonna leave a mark... The Common Peroneal Nerve.. Its a rather large, finger diameter, sized nerve, that surfaces (makes vulnerable), slightly above and outboard of the knee.. I was first introduced to it as a child, by a friend from way back in kindergarten Eric Larsen, when he wanted to show me the pop karate that he had learned.. Later on at about age nine, I was reintroduced to it by my older cousin Scott Sathre, when he dropped me like a rock, playing Rover Red Rover, send Billy on over (his targeting was flawless).. I had pretty much forgotten about it, until years later, when I began teaching defensive tactics with the Coast Guard. For the students, it became the sweet spot.. A prescribed (convenient and instantaneous), exposed area for low angle kicks and batons. All too often (imho) I found myself being taken down (stuffed and cuffed), by our students, while I was playing the bad guy in mock boarding training scenarios.. The students had learned their lessons well.. Many a year has passed since those days, and the painful memories had been put to rest,, never to be known again..... So I thought... Its 2:AM~ish. Im laying there in the relative safety of my own home.. Im dog tired.. The wish, hope or dream of sleeping a few more hours, is overridden by the nonnegotiable need to pee.. I tried all the tricks, up to and including the last desperate act of toe wiggling.. Admit it.. Youve all done it in car, on the way home from somewhere.. Begrudgingly, I roll out of bed and stagger off to the event.. On the way back to bed, I picked up the tv remote and clicked off the tube (re~reruns of CSI Miami). At that instant, my night vision went to total crap, and apparently my bearings as well.. The bench.. That seemingly immovable object at the foot of the bed, that has sat there, buried into its own carpet divots for the last ten years,, decided to reintroduce itself.. Sensory overload.. The compassionate act of ones body and mind, in sharing its own trauma.. I could actually taste the pain of my leg, turning into quivering jello.. Wish I could have cried...Next time,, Im peeing the bed!!! ;-)
