Oh, What A GOD...! John’s first epistle ends with the rather odd phrase: “Little children, keep yourselves from idols” (1 John 5:21). I say ‘odd’ because the whole thrust of the letter is an exposition on the nature of the Son of God and a call for believers to live their faith in Christ coherently. After wrapping up his teaching, he slots in this little line that seems so out of place: “Little children, keep yourselves from idols.” It’s almost as if old brother John was sat down at his desk with his laptop writing out his message. Once finished, he saved the document, shut down Microsoft Word and headed to the kitchen for a cup of coffee.
