Oh boy, rant time, or Id like to think educational too? This is how TV and many forms of media persuade you / the public. Even the news is in on the marketing. Watching the video, and if you care too, come back and read my diatribe. So, KMOV starts the story interviewing 3 young minority males who all give mixed answers but ultimately a tone of disagreement with the new law. They even cut off the first guys answer as he was about to elaborate and make a point. Then comes an explanation of how this is designed to make life easier (easy, eh?) for high rollers like Baseball players and entertainers (Hey, I love BASEBALL! and Riverport is Awesome! - Riverport indirectly references Hollywood formerly known as Harrahs, and Lumiere indirectly references Cardinals baseball) St. Louiss two largest Casinos, and how its no interest (wow, its free! Cool!) Vomit... Next, they give credibility (BS) to a problem gambler by stating he had a problem gambling and now has a website lol. But, they showed his picture too, that being an older wiser looking male Caucasian, grey hair, over weight, run down looking, speaking in a raspy smokers voice. They then move on to showing a picture of Ameristars Vice President in his glamour shot, nice suit, clean shaven, hansom, whole, successful, American Dad with the news anchor saying he could not go on camera (but he also didnt speak in a audio recorded interview either did he? Interesting...), with three bullets - screening process sufficient, often requested convenience, and will attract guests. Notice the keywords, sufficient, convenience, and attract. So dont worry, they will make sure that only those with good income and pass the credit check / screening process can get a loan. Right? (No... thats now what it said) It said, in fact, screening process is sufficient (with the anchor paraphrasing Ameristars Vice President that only those who can afford it will be approved). Sufficient quickly becomes approved becomes it must be a good idea. Then, the second bullet lets you know that everyone else is doing it (Keeping up with the Joness Effect) so it must be ok, and maybe you should too? And afterall, its convenient! Cool! And then the third bullet lets you know how it will attract guests (guests that give casino money, so our schools do so well, and we can have nice roads) and again, Keeping up with the Joness effect applies here too. And in conclusion, they end the story by paraphrasing a Gambling Industry Expert who they dont name or show a photo of (coincidence? I think not) stating that this will have a modest effect on gaming in Missouri. Reread that, what exactly does that sentence mean? It means nothing, they just needed to get the word modest in there and no effect ideology. And then shes saying all of this with a sincere tone, dont worry, everything will be fine, etc, etc. Ok, Im done. Good evening everyone! Happy August Eve! =)
