Oh, for heavens power and authority to come on us today! Without the anointing there can be no authority in our preaching. As preachers, we will be like common people, in a common market, babbling about common wares. This anointing will enable us to cast Elijahs mantle of power, upon Jordans muddy waters of unbelief and indifference; we will call things that are not, as though they were; this anointing will enable us to release those that are bound, and held in Satans grip. Praise God! Come, Holy Ghost our souls inspire, And lighten with celestial fire; Thou the anointing Spirit art, Who dost Thy sevenfold gifts impart. Thy blessed unction from above is comfort, life and fire of love; Enable with perpetual light The dullness of our blinded sight. The fire of God will burn in our bosoms, until we go because we cannot stay; until we pray, Oh God enlarge my vision to encompass the entire world. This will take the feebleness from our weak knees and lift up our drooping hands! The great Revivalist Charles Finney said, Power from on high is the supreme need of the day. The Prophet prayed, Oh that Thou wouldest rend the heavens, that Thou wouldst come down, That the mountains might flow down at thy presence- Isaiah 64:1. If Christ waited to be anointed before He went to preach, no man ought to preach until he, too has been anointed with the Holy Ghost. Paul said, For our Gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Ghost! Thess.1:5 If we had the Spirit sealing our ministry, with power it would signify very little about talent. Men might be poor and uneducated, their words might be broken and ungrammatical; but if the Might of the Spirit attended them, the humblest evangelist would be more successful, than the most learned of the divines, or the most eloquent of preachers. It is extraordinary power from God, that wins the day. It is extra ordinary spiritual unction, not extraordinary mental power, that we need. Mental power may fill the chapel, but spiritual power fill the church with soul anguish. Mental power may gather a large congregation, but only spiritual power will save souls. What we need is spiritual power. - Spurgeon Let the Spirit be lacking, and there may be wisdom of words, but not the wisdom of God; the powers of oratory, but not the power of God; the demonstration of argument and the logic of the schools, but not the demonstration of the Holy Spirit, the all convincing logic of His lightening flash, such as convinced Saul before the Damascus gate. When the Spirit was out poured, the disciples were all filled with power from on high, the most unlettered tongue could silence gainsayers and with Its new fire, burning its way through obstacles, as flames fanned by mighty winds swept through forests - A. T. Pierson It is easy to become professional. The man who is preaching for a living will never succeed, but if he is preaching for what he would gladly do for nothing, he has caught the vision. Gods word should be like a burning fire in his bones, as the Prophet of old, who went because he could not stay, who preached because he could not be silent. He should preach because he cannot do otherwise. If the Preacher can do anything else he should do it! The Apostle Paul said, Woe is me if I preach not the Gospel, he also said, The love of Christ constraineth me. The preacher must be careful not to loose his love for Christ and that he is always on fire. God has always used a man, it could be you my Brother that He in sovereign grace, will use to meet the challenge of today. D. L. Moody said, The world has yet to see, what God can do with a man that is completely yielded to Him, by the grace of God I will be that man. Oh, God pour your ‘Holy Oil on your servants today!
