Oh how I love your Torah! All day long it is in my conversation! Check this out: This is the thing that we all really loved today, reading inside in context gave it the full effect but here goes: Ill bold some words and phrases to bring it out, keeping in mind this is English...The Torah portions on top and below the Gospel connection: Genesis 32;1 Now as Jacob went on his way, the angels of God met him. 2 Jacob said when he saw them, “This is God’s camp.” So he named that place Mahanaim. 3 Then Jacob sent messengers before him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom. 4 He also commanded them saying, “Thus you shall say to my lord Esau: ‘Thus says your servant Jacob, “I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed until now; 5 I have oxen and donkeys and flocks and male and female servants; and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in your sight.”’” 6 The messengers returned to Jacob, saying, “We came to your brother Esau, and furthermore he is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him.” 7 Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed; and he divided the people who were with him, and the flocks and the herds and the camels, into two companies; 8 for he said, “If Esau comes to the one company and attacks it, then the company which is left will escape.” 9 Jacob said, “O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, O Lord, who said to me, ‘Return to your country and to your relatives, and I will prosper you,’ 10 I am unworthy of all the lovingkindness and of all the faithfulness which You have shown to Your servant; for with my staff only I crossed this Jordan, and now I have become two companies. 11 Deliver me, I pray, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, that he will come and attack me and the mothers with the children. 12 For You said, ‘I will surely prosper you and make your descendants as the sand of the sea, which is too great to be numbered.’” 13 So he spent the night there. Genesis 33; 1 Then Jacob lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and four hundred men with him. So he divided the children among Leah and Rachel and the two maids. 2 He put the maids and their children in front, and Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph last. 3 But he himself passed on ahead of them and bowed down to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother. 4 Then Esau ran to meet him and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept. 5 He lifted his eyes and saw the women and the children, and said, “Who are these with you?” So he said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.” 6 Then the maids came near with their children, and they bowed down. 7 Leah likewise came near with her children, and they bowed down; and afterward Joseph came near with Rachel, and they bowed down. 8 And he said, “What do you mean by all this company which I have met?” And he said, “To find favor in the sight of my lord.” 9 But Esau said, “I have plenty, my brother; let what you have be your own.” 10 Jacob said, “No, please, if now I have found favor in your sight, then take my present from my hand, for I see your face as one sees the face of God, and you have received me favorably. 11 Please take my gift which has been brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me and because I have plenty.” Matthew 26; 36 Then Jesus *came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and *said to His disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and distressed. 38 Then He *said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.” (Jacob too was deeply grieved, he is terrified and frightened, fearful that he will have to see all that he knows/has/is be taken and torn and destroyed before his eyes by his vengeful brother.) 39 And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.” (Jacob prays, who knows what he would hope for..plete deliverance from having to face his brother and this terrifying sight? Either way he has continued to profess the acknowledgment that God has given him his blessings and that He is is protection *especially when he as in the house of Laban: Genesis 31;7 Yet your father has cheated me and changed my wages ten times; however, God did not allow him to hurt me.) 40 And He *came to the disciples and *found them sleeping, and *said to Peter, “So, you men could not keep watch with Me for one hour? 41 Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 He went away again a second time and prayed, saying, “My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, Your will be done.” 43 Again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy . 44 and He left them again, and went away and prayed a third time (Jacob makes sure his family is safe then he goes off to pray for protection, this is the third in a series of prayers/visions/encounters 1)the angels on the ladder where he set up and anointed a stone, 2) after leaving Laban where he set up another pile of stones 3)here as he is fearful and asking for help to face one seeking his destruction) saying the same thing once more. 45 Then He *came to the disciples and *said to them, “Are you still sleeping (just at dawn is this meeting with Esau) and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Get up, let us be going; behold, the one who betrays Me is at hand!” 47 While He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve (a brother, so to speak, of Yeshua), came up accompanied by a large crowd with swords and clubs (this was the imagery which sent a twinge in my spirit, the connection to the evil Esau coming up with his 400 armed men meant to slaughter the son by whom the promise would be maintained) , who came from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 Now he who was betraying Him gave them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the one; seize Him.” 49 Immediately Judas went to Jesus (Cant help but think of Esau running to Jacob to kiss him) and said, “Hail, Rabbi!” and kissed Him. (the kiss of death, kiss of betrayal, this is a very similar kiss to that of Esau. It is not the pretty picture that the English and tradition teaches, there is not a real genuine reconciliation between Jacob and Esau, he intended to kill and conquer Israel just like we still see today *descendants of Esau- Muslim Arabs) 50 And Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you have come for.” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and seized Him. (Esau asked..what have you come for, what did you mean by this...i.e. the tribute he sent ahead of him; Esau and Jacob lay their hands on each other when they meet...additionally Jacob had, just before this scene with Esau, striven with a man commonly thought to be an angel whom he strove with...you could say who seized him.) 51 And behold, one of those who were with Jesus reached and drew out his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his ear. 52 Then Jesus *said to him, “Put your sword back into its place; for all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword. (Cant help but think about the prophecy Rebecca received from God regarding the two nations in her womb which were a type of good/evil christ/antichrist Esav was a known man of the sword: Genesis 25; 23 The Lord said to her, “Two nations are in your womb; and two peoples will be separated from your body; and one people shall be stronger than the other; and the older shall serve the younger.”...27 When the boys grew up, Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the field, but Jacob was a peaceful man, living in tents.) 53 Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels? (remember Angels encountered Jacob to strengthen him before he met his brother who meant to kill him, and Jacob commands them and sends them ahead of him to assess the situation..ie. meet the army of Esau) 54 How then will the Scriptures be fulfilled (I wonder at all these connections if the above Genesis verses are some of the scriptures which foreshadowed what must happen keeping in mind when Yeshua refers to Scripture he means what they had which was the Torah Genesis-Deuteronomy and the Prophets and Writings-through Malachi) , which say that it must happen this way?” 55 At that time Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as you would against a robber? (Remember Esau considered Jacob a thief who stole his birthright though he sold it and took the blessing of the firstborn from him.) Anyway that was the best part of the Torah study. It always is about Yeshua. I love it! Let me know what you think.... I hope and pray youll have a wonderful blessed rest of your weekend.
