Oh my October was a whirlwind month which has come and gone! Its only been a few short weeks since we learned that Dennis has multiple myeloma, a cancer of the blood which impacts the bones (similar to leukemia). If he hadnt gone to the doctor for an injury and insisted on an xray, we would have never known that he had cancer. Dennis had his first chemo treatment this past week and will continue weekly sessions for the next 6 to 12 months. We have an excellent doctor, supportive family & friends, rocket science cousin, and are very hopeful. Its like someone pulling the rug from under us - weve been back and forth between the states and SE Asia seeing doctors and coping with a major life event in a foreign country. Dennis doctor gave him two weeks to get our affairs settled overseas before starting chemo treatment. In the midst of all of this, we werent satisfied with the yacht broker situation in Singapore so we sailed the boat from Singapore to Malaysia (three and half days through the malacca straits - huge shipping channel, many fishing boats, and lots of lightning and thunder storms); Got our sailboat listed with a broker in Langkawi, Malaysia - better market for cruising sailboats, shipped our stuff home; bought wheels; took a 48 hour flight back to the states and even found a new job! Phew, Im ready for the resthome! Not to mention poor Dennis who had to deal with all this- not bad for a 69 year old man with multiple myeloma!
