Oh, my! This is exactly what my son brings home from school. He started doing the 10 thing in kindergarten. There are many times I have to fake acting like I understand some of the simplest math problems. Instead of just adding 6+9 and getting an answer, they have to break it down and do all this other stuff. To me it wastes a lot of time. When these kids grow up and go shopping at the grocery store and have one item for $6 and one item for $9 do they break it down into relating to 10 or do they just add it together to see if they enough money to pay for it? Were wasting time on simple problems. Lets advance the kids and move onto more complex numbers.
