Oh my goodness, what a week! Came home with some not so great news, but So thankful to be home! I am absolutely worn out. Started at 3 am Tuesday morning going for testing. Then drove to Denver and spent a couple of nights with some sweet family friends on their farm. Went back to hendersonville today and met with Dr Rosner before going back to the hospital for pre-op check in and bloodwork. There was a couple more issues identified, including degenerative discs in my back and pressure instability. Hopefully those can be corrected with a successful surgery, but thats the tricky part. Because of my chemical meningitis from the previous surgery, it creates more scar tissue and this (in his words) makes this a much more dangerous surgery for me. Because that scar tissue acts like an adhering agent, and he has to remove my cerebral tonsils (bottom part of my brain) from being wrapped around the brainstem, that scar tissue will make it a lot more difficult. He has to try to tease the nerves loose from the tonsils and brainstem and thats the problem. Theyll more than likely be stuck. Best case, he gets them loose without any problems. If not, theres a chance a few small ones may break, but those should heal pretty quickly, but can cause me to lose my ability to talk or swallow for a while (days to weeks). But hes worried that if they are very adhered, he wont be able to get them loose without causing serious permanent damage. If he sees that he is doing more harm than good, he will stop the surgery, sew me up and thats it. Ill be stuck like this forever. Hopefully it doesnt come to that and theres no issues. But he seemed concerned about the danger of the surgery now (as if it wasnt any big deal before!!). Needless to say, Im very freaked out. I could use all of the prayers I can get right now. Pray for me and for dr rosner that his hands are guided and things go as planned. In the meantime, Im going to keep my mind off of it, spend some time in the woods and get my Christmas stuff up. The busier I am, the less time Ill have to worry!
