Oh my gosh, so very exhausted, but so happy to end my USC duties for the semester with the presentation of my MFA playwrights thesis plays. So proud of Nahal Navidars beautiful inquiry into Iran, women and war, Brian James Polak’s use of disability to explore the fragility of relationships and Jesse Shao’s look at sect religion and faith in young people. Super grateful to three L.A. directors who took on the development and presentation; Robert Egan, Elina de Santos and Nancy Keystone of Critical Mass Performance Group for their veteran talents. Each play featured a virtuoso turn from a company of great L.A. actors. Amin El Gamal as a 15 year old Iranian soldier, Arye Gross struggling to remember the present after an accident and Wyatt Joseph Fenner as a person of faith who ends up finding it deep inside. A great big thank you to Loretta Greco from The Magic Theatre in San Francisco, Kelly Miller from South Coast Repertory and Seema Sueko from the Pasadena Playhouse for being critically generous responders. Tomorrow on my way to a new adventure, but for tonight, lots of Zzzzz’s.
