Oh my, oh my. Folks, I cant say this enough. Before purchasing a pup READ YOUR CONTRACT! Now, with that being said, lets discuss contracts....again. A contract is signed to protect the parties involved, BUT dont be fooled. Contracts always favor the person who initially had the contract drawn up because they are usually the one with the most risk. For example, a mortgage contract/deed for a home is written in favor of the bank. In a nutshell it states if you pay, you stay, if you dont, you wont. Same with a car loan. Again, all in favor of the loan provider. You pay, you keep it, you dont, they reap it. Same with a puppy contract. Its more in favor of the breeder, as the breeder has more at risk financially (YES, believe it or not, they do IF they are doing things the right way) and otherwise. Now, understanding all that, theres nothing that says you cant alter the contract. If the breeder tells you something thats not specified in the contract, YOU CAN WRITE IT IN! Yes you can, and the hand written takes precedence over the pre-printed. All parties must sign and date the changes for it to be legally binding. Oral contracts are valid contracts but 99% of the time are not enforceable in any court of law. If the breeder wont sign the changes, walk away. One more time, read your contract, and even more importantly KNOW your breeder. Know what they produce and know their reputation. Caveat emptor - Let the buyer beware!!
