Oh no! Here comes Andy!! SO I ASK, IS THIS PART OF THE PROBLEM - TopicsExpress

Oh no! Here comes Andy!! SO I ASK, IS THIS PART OF THE PROBLEM OR PART OF THE SOLUTION?? It surprises me what little, people actually know about the modeling industry. Now, I don’t proclaim myself as a guru but I do try to use just ordinary common sense. I was asked by a model the other day how many times I have been published and she asked me this in a rather snooty way as if, I was not a real photographer unless I was published. Now, I don’t want to go craping on anyone’s tootsie roll with this article, but my reply after thinking, I wonder who filled that head full or rocks?: I have been proudly hired to shoot publications in many magazines and other media both locally, nationally, as well as internationally. I have also won many awards with my photography, was elected vise president of a 30-year-old camera club and was awarded the distinguished “Photographer of the Year Award” by my peers. However, I went on to say, I have gotten invitations from about every modeling magazine on Facebook to volunteer my work and they would publish me and give me covers. I always get invited to the social “mega” shoots that charge you admission and finesse your photography for free so they can use your photos for their sponsor’s magazines. But what value is that? I asked. Those poor photographers pay to work there asses off at these events then give up their images to get published in a magazines that laugh their asses off at them all the way to the bank. Damn, that is like getting screwed twice with no pay! I could have made wallpaper with the 100’s of covers had I “volunteered” my work for free for the sole purpose of building up those magazines for them. Now remember folks, the key word here is “free” that means giving up your learned skills and hard work without getting paid, just so the magazine can bank on your sweat equity! No, thank you! Haha! Folks, the truth here is that the vast majority of photographers you see tooting their horns to the deluded beat of the “I’m published” illlusional drum, gave there work away for free and to me that is just plain foolish. I know this may sound a bit graphic, but the more free work you see on their page, the more you begin to realize this guy really enjoys bending over and getting screwed twice and three times over year in year out! LOL Even I wised up after a session or two. So I ask you, would you say that in an industry were digital cameras diluted the value of an image, forced a great many famous photographers into retirement or out of business altogether, and forced famous magazines to into bankruptcy, that these freebie photographers and magazines are part of the problem or part of the solution??? Being published means, “zero” if a photographer gives his work away. Also, those magazines are worth “zero” if they use others for personal gain. I have no interest in building up magazines without getting paid so I also publish and sell my work. And like the “Rock star”, I will show you the devoted fans that I sell my albums to also. :)
