Oh no, I have doubts! News flash! Everyone has doubt about - TopicsExpress

Oh no, I have doubts! News flash! Everyone has doubt about something. Sometimes about little things like, I doubt this thing will finish on time, or I doubt my team will win this season. Often little doubts turn into big doubts that erode our faith and trust in God. This weekend Terry Kaufman talked about the story of Gideon from Judges 6 - 7. Gideons story is a kind of a case study on doubt. We find Gideon threshing wheat in a winepress while hiding from the Midianites in his vineyard. Gideon doubted God would protect him from being pillaged by the Midianites. An angel appeared to Gideon with a message to trust God and stand and fight. Instead of trusting Gods plan, Gideon put out a fleece to test God. Gideon continued to doubt time after time in what God wanted him to do. After a series of tests and mountains of patience from God, Gideon started to follow Gods plan. In the end, Gideon stood against an army of 135,000 Midianites with only a few hundred soldiers who carried pots, trumpets and torches. In the end, Gideon accomplished all that God wanted him to. If Gideon had chosen to trust God in the first place, all the messy headache of getting there would have been avoided. Sound familiar yet? Some lessons from Gideons Story - You dont have to be amazing to do amazing. - If you want to be effective for God, you may have to change some stuff in your life. - God sometimes sets it up so you can’t win without Him. Questions and doubts dont disqualify you as part of Gods family or team. God didnt abandon Gideon even through all his questions and doubts. Furthermore, Gideon didnt quit God even through his questions and doubts. When doubt pushed you around, push it back. Let it drive you, let it propel you, let it motivate you forward to seek answers. The issue isnt whether or not you have doubt, everyone does, what matters is if you let them trip you up or stop you from doing Gods will. Your challenge this week: As Christians we have doubts, we have questions, and it becomes unhealthy when we lock them inside. They start to fester and grow and undermine our faith. The healthy road is to talk about it, to be honest and truthful about the doubts that plague our faith. Find a trusted friend or a leader this week and talk about your doubts.
