Oh no! Not Electoral Reform again! ;) So: the main grievances against FPTP is that it yields distorted percentage of seats v/s percentage of votes expressed, AND that in sheerly polarised political environments (like ours), this makes all kinds of political coalitions, a RECURRENT feature!! Which means that the SYSTEM actually produces the inevitable outcome that no single party faces elections on its own strength.... However, PR (pure or to a lesser extent, mixed) can lead to the situation where an extremist party becomes the kingmaker and possibly hold the post-election government to hostage.... Which is the lesser evil?
