Oh no! Talk about great timing! I have to admit that I did this twice this year. I havent run in races in years. I mean years! I decided to sign up for the 2014 St. Jude half-marathon on December 26, 2013 for many personal and important reasons. I registered the day the race opened this past fall. I also registered for the Greenline half-marathon in October and the recent Forrest Spence 5K that was held in August. I registered for all of these races for personal reasons. I was not familiar with the MTRC Road Race Series until a friend told me about it. It is a series of races that grow in miles as the series continues. When I looked at the race schedule I noticed I could only make a couple of the races so I decided not to register. I did end up running in two of the races at the invitation of a friend. Of course, it has been years since I was in official races. I thought I would run the race as training and exercise. No problem although it felt a little strange to be honest. So much of this type of running and racing is new to me although I have been running in some way for many years. I did not realize there were rules for running groups, protocol, unstated groupings, etc. Who would have thought? I just knew I wanted to run again and needed help in finding a good way to return to a healthier lifestyle before I started traveling and working intense hours. I have made many wonderful new friends over the last nine months of training. I have also had to pick my feelings up off the ground more than once while learning the ropes. I made mistakes. Running mistakes. Training mistakes. I even made the mistake of trying to learn too quickly and trying to encourage too much. I didnt know. I am learning. Who knew? Needless to say, I will be registering for the remaining MTRC road races on location before the race each and every time even if it is just one more time. I am imperfect in every possible way and make mistakes every day but I certainly do not want to be a bandit (at least not intentionally). Great article! I laughed and then made a note to ALWAYS register for every race. Lesson learned. Thanks for sharing Runners World! #allforstjude
