Oh, scholars engage the public and have a lot to say about policy issues, all right; however, many among the Ameican people and those who represent them have tended to avoid uncomfortable findings. I imagine scholars relatively longer offerings - with the exception of tightly constrained blog posts and opinion pieces, perhaps - might be off-putting as well in a world where its tough to hold a persons attention for longer than a sound bite or tweet.
