Oh well the excitement never ends around here. My little Doxie, - TopicsExpress

Oh well the excitement never ends around here. My little Doxie, Oscar was barking at something in the hallway when I was in the kitchen doing dishes an hour or so ago... I take a look and could only see my other doxie who is blind, sort of creeping to find her way around and I assumed he was baking at her (which never happens I might add). So I retire to the bedroom to watch MSNBC news for about 45 mins, then go back to the kitchen for a glass of water, always escorted by Oscar, who will never let me out of his sight... I walk up to the sink barefooted and he goes crazy barking at something on the floor, along the cabinet near my foot and it turns out to be a Green Mohave rattle snake. I had already jumped back several feet before I saw the snake.... thank the cosmos, because if I had seen it before I moved out of striking range, I would have froze there. I ran out the back door, grabbed my trusty flat head shovel, slowly worked my way back toward the snake who had his head under my stove by then so I began chopping him up and pinning him down. I grabbed the tall trashcan near by and threw the trash on the floor with one hand while I kept him pinned with dozens of bloody chops in his body by now. Then I held him tight to the floor with the flat head and scooted him out from under the stove, then shoved him into the trashcan and out of the house where I put the poor thing out of his misery, then threw him out onto the dirt road where the crows will take over. All of this happened due to my pure stupidity of running a commercial extinction cord out the front door so I could work on my carport, leaving an opening for snakes and other creatures.. That means the snake could have been in the house all night and when Oscar was barking at it the first time, It was behind my bookcase in the hallway. I am very happy that it didnt continue into my bedroom where the situation could have then been much more serious.
