Oh, what big ears you have! (The better to hear my echolocation with, my dear!) Researchers spent the weekend gently handling some of the Townsends big-eared bats in our lava tube caves to check their health and, among other things, test their fur and wings for the fungus that causes White Nose Syndrome. So far, all the bats here in El Malpais are healthy and show no signs of the disease. Lets keep it that way - remember that you must check with a ranger at our visitor centers and get a free caving permit before entering any caves in the monument.
