Ohh, My, this Sunday Morning smell is Heaven . . . * * * CINNAMON ROLL GRANOLA * * * You know that enticing smell when you are walking around the mall and a Cinnabon store is just around the corner? Well, what if you could create that smell and taste in your home without all the processed flour and sugar? If this intrigues you I encourage you to try this homemade Cinnamon Roll Granola. Ingredients: • 1 cup gluten-free old fashioned oats • 2 Tablespoons chia seeds • 1 – 2 Tablespoons cinnamon powder • 3 pinches sea salt • 1/8 cup melted coconut oil • 1/8 cup pure maple syrup or agave • 1 teaspoon pure maple extract Instructions: • Mix wet ingredients together (melted coconut oil, pure maple syrup and maple extract). In a separate bowl mix the dry ingredients together (oats, chia seeds, cinnamon, sea salt). Pour wet ingredient mixture into dry ingredient mixture and stir until oats are thoroughly coated. • On a greased baking sheet (spray with coconut oil) spread the granola mixture as flat as possible. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes and then stir the mixture around; turn oven down to 225 degrees Fahrenheit and continue to bake granola for 30 minutes until crispy (you may want to stir the granola mixture a few times during that 30 minute period). Oats are a popular health food amongst most dietary lifestyles. According to Medical News Today, “oats are loaded with dietary fiber and have a range of cholesterol-lowering properties.” In addition to fiber, oats also provide a range of minerals such as manganese, selenium, phosphorous, magnesium and zinc. (1) A study published in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine, titled “Oats at 10 Years”, found that oats may reduce risk of coronary heart disease. Dr. James M. Rippe, the editor of the journal, said, “This is an extremely important study. It tracked the value of oat-based products and showed the correlation between consumption and a healthier lifestyle. It is an outstanding benchmark.” (1) Sources for this article include: medicalnewstoday
