Ohio, animal cruelty cases, like Puppy Doe of Massachusetts, remind us of why we pull together to enact stronger, legal protections for our companion animals. The animal abuse is often the most visible sign that others too may be at risk. The man accused of torturing the pit bull known as Puppy Doe and stealing more than $100,000 from a 95-year-old woman is still being held without bail! Czerkawski has been charged with 12 counts of animal cruelty and one count of misleading police in connection with the brutal abuse of Puppy Doe, the name given to the pit bull that was euthanized last summer because of her severe injuries. He’s also facing several larceny counts after prosecutors said he stole about $130,000 from the late Janina Stock, an elderly woman with dementia whom Czerkawski was hired to care for.
