Ohio has a number of trees that, within Ohio, are native to only the extreme southern part of the state. This species typically displays excellent color. Sourwood boasts brilliant red leaves against cream colored seed capsules. Sourwood is a smaller (+/- 40 feet tall) understory tree that likes acid soil hillsides. Although most trees have yet to change in southern Ohio, hurry down south now to see these as their leaves are changing fast!
