Ok, 70s country-rock fans- heres a fun story in todays Berkshire Eagle about The Pure Prairie League (also celebrating their 45th anniversary) who are playing in the Berkshires tomorrow, and have a Norman Rockwell connection! Apparently the band really loved Rockwells 1927 painting, Cowboy with Gramophone, and received permission from Rockwell to use it on the cover of their debut album in 1972. The image became something of a trademark for the band, and they would go on to use variations of the cowboy (created by another artist) for subsequent releases. Saturdays show at Pittsfields Colonial Theatre does not mark the bands 1st trip to the Berkshires- according to the Eagle article, they visited Rockwell in Stockbridge several years after the release of their first album, finding him a gracious man, and making him an honorary Prairie Dog!
