Ok. Being that I watched the video a few times showing the confrontation of the NYPD officers and Eric Garner, let me weigh in on both the senseless MURDER and the actions of Mr. Garner. Lets begin with the actions of the MURDERED victim. Because he felt that he was being harassed by the NYPD, it is very clear and without question that Mr. Garner did not comply with the directives given to him by the officer. Lesson #1.......when an officer verbalize the four words You are under arrest, ALWAYS comply. If you choose not to, you will certainly end up on the losing end. Having served as a police officer, my training taught me to identify aggressive behavior (stiffening of the body, clenched fists, defensive stance, combative, clenching the teeth, raising your voice, etc.,) Mr. Garner was resisting arrest as he attempted to express why he shouldnt be arrested. Lesson #2.......Although you may feel officers are wrong when you are confronted by them (and they could very well be), the sidewalk is not the place to present your case; the court is. Comply and then wait for the appropriate date and designated place to present your side. Lesson #3.......Physical force will always be used against noncompliance and aggressive behavior. ALWAYS! There is so much more I can point out from an officers perspective but can you imagine what the outcome couldve been if he didnt fail to comply with a lawful order and resist arrest. The officers were wrong, but their directives were lawful orders until the court ruled otherwise. Now, lets look at the NYPD officers. As Police Officers, it is a part of universal training to only use the APPROPRIATE amount of force to subdue suspects. In this case involving Eric Garner, the officers action not only violated departmental policy, but was excessive, negligent, reckless, and in violation of the law. He killed that man! The officer who applied the choke hold and the other officers who stood there and did nothing to stop their partner should have been indicted along with him. #WhatDoWeSayToTheseThings #EnoughIsEnough
