Ok, Dr. Z sez Cassidys prognosis is grave. Its not strangles; its not an infected tooth. He think it might have been a foreign body (being on her blind side, perhaps she hit something?). Normally, itd be a localized wound, but with her compromised immune system, the infection has become systemic. Her temp is high and heart rate is high (although part of that was her agitation at being separated from Mack and Sarge). With her age and Cushings, he didnt even want to sedate her as he felt she could collapse simply from that. He cleaned the wound thoroughly, opened the lower area so Ill be flushing thru there twice a day; and weve put her on a tri-antibiotic regimen, and also bute. Like Fannie, shes too old and frail from Cushings to deal easily with this kind of problem. And we cant be too hopeful. Remember how Fannie perked up in the first 2-3 days of treatment, and then crashed? But, weve given her a chance, and our best help at this time. Now, its up to her. Fingers crossed...
