Ok. Everyone seems to want to chime in on their opinions, so time for mine. EU or expanded universe for the non sw fans, should remain Canon. The point is George Lucas created sw. All authors, game designers, comics, etc were chosen by Lucas and lucasfilm to create these. If you read all the interviews from them, they were restricted in what they could write or create. The final approval came from GL himself. He authorized it. It is Canon. Simple enough. Many authors had tried to kill off main characters including Luke, Han, and Leia and GL shot them down. Why? Cause he had plans for more movies with them. Since the Thrawn trilogy, it has been the fans clamoring for more. And GL gave it to them. Without EU, there is no pre-quels. Coruscant was created by EU. Dual lightsabers, lightsaber forms, rule of two, chosen one, and more were created in EU long before they showed up in any of the movies. And since they are now Canon, then their originating sources are and should be Canon. In an interview with Disney CEO, he stated that before the purchase, he got to see everything lucasfilm copyrighted and created for sw which included over 100,000 species, planets, terms, ships, etc expanding over 40,000 sw years. All were approved by Lucas. Hence all Canon. Yes, there are different types of fans. You have OT only fans, movie fans, EU fans, collection fans, and true fans. I am a true fan. I love every single thing that has to do with sw. From tor to cade skywalker. From jar jar to holiday Christmas special. From comics to books to games to movies. I love and collect all i can, begging for more. At this time, I have watched all 6 movies over 20,000 times total, both original and special edition. Currently i am at view episode iv alone 5,996 times since it came out in 77. So thats my opinion. Many will not agree, but until i am dead, all and everything that is star wars is canon to me.
