Ok, I am alive! Tried to kill myself (figuratively) this week end - TopicsExpress

Ok, I am alive! Tried to kill myself (figuratively) this week end with an over ambitious goal of a double podium in the Capitol Forest Classic Double D Enduro and the All Mountain Championship. In the end I took 2nd place in the Enduro to a competitor half my age and who did not compete in Saturdays XC race. Not to slight his efforts as he is super fast but my legs were toast by Sunday so 2nd place was awesome. The XC race on Saturday consisted of approx 30 miles and 5,500 ft of climbing 99% on semi technical single track and it was a death march for me with one gear. When the dust had settled after 30+ mins of Enduro Stage races I found myself in a 3-way tie for 1st place in the All Mountain Championship. I had thought that in the case of a tie the fastest time on Sundays race was used as the tiebreaker but they had something else in store for us. The 3 of us (and the other 2 are much younger) had to sit on our butts with legs crossed then on Go do a 30 yard sprint to a table, chug a beer, then race the 30 yards back. Well I won the sprint to the beer but failed to win the chug and was less than a 1/2 second of 1st place getting back to the start. In the end I was awarded 2nd place in the All Mountain Championship. Guess I need to go full Single Speed and learn to drink faster...Training for next year is already under way thanks to my Sponsor Boundary Bay Brewery. Also, thanks for all the great support all year from Center Cycle, Afford-A-Vet Animal Clinic, Santa Cruz Bicycles, Wolf Tooth Components, LLC, Pearson Chiropractic & Rehabilitation Center, Chain Brew, Wildwater River Guides, crankbrothers, Lezyne. And, as I suffered through the pedaling and pushing around that 30 mile/5,500 of climbing XC course I thought of the suffering, struggles, and triumphs faced by the thousands of kids (and their familys) diagnosed with Pediatric Cancer every year. I was not going to give up and I managed to at least CRUSH all the DH sections. One final shout out to crushkidscancer.org/ for all that you do. And, if you can please donate to this cause https://crowdrise/fundraise-and-volunteer/the-team/epicracing/alexweinert
