Ok I am really, really scared right now. Dr. Moore asked that I take Tom to the ER yesterday because when he woke up and tried to stand, he was in excruciating pain again. The docs did a CT and MRI and the tumor is severely compressing the spinal cord again. He also has three vertebrae that are fractured T-2 T-3 T-4 as a result of the tumor! So... They are doing surgery at 10:00am in the morning to remove the tumor from the spinal cord and put plates and screws in the spine to stabilize and fix the fractures. The surgery will take about 3 hours and there will be about a six week recovery period, probably at a rehab center. There is a small risk of damaging the spinal cord during surgery, but an even greater risk of Tom becoming paralyzed by the tumor itself or the bone fragments penetrating the spinal cord. At this point there is no other option but to do surgery. Maybe, just maybe... this will be the miracle we have been looking for. FINALLY, someone is doing something!!! MD Anderson told us to go home and make him comfortable as there was nothing else they could do but Tom and I refuse to quit and give up. Please say a prayer for Tom and our family tonight before you go to sleep and again in the morning. Tom and our family need as many prayers as we can get right now. I would like for everyone if YOU to know that your kind words, thoughts and prayers mean the world to Tom, myself and our family. We could not fight this horrific cancer battle without you.
