Ok...I cant hold this question in any longer...Ive been wondering, as Im watching the evolution of the natural hair trend...(I do classify it a trend at this point, as one who has been natural for over 13 years now and am forever answering questions from those who want to transition because its hot right now.) Anyhow, the burning question is this: when did becoming/embracing your natural state involve extensive and elaborate wear of protective styling such as crochet braids, weaves, wigs, etc.? At what point does the NATURAL part kick in and the pride in wearing your heaven-given kinks and curls come into play? Now, disclaimer: I do understand giving your hair the occasional rest with braids. That is ancestral in nature. I just cant help but notice the inundation of crochet braids, weaves & straightened hair on pages such as these that were meant to allow women to connect and share the journey of embracing the natural you. Anyone else notice this shift? No shade, just curious.
