Ok, I dont recall Mayor de Blasio asking the NYPD to put racial profiling, abuse of authority, excessive force, and I Can Breathe counter-protests on hold until after Eric Garners funeral or to make supporting his family our only concern. Yes, we should always be concerned about a family thats lost a loved one, but, being concerned for others and ourselves is not an either/or prospect. We can/should do both. Also, why should #BlackLivesMatter put protests against police brutality on hold due to the deaths of two cops whose murders had nothing to do with the protests any more than the shooters attempt to kill his ex, Shaneka Thompson? And even though the shooters first victim (Shaneka Thompson) survived, why didnt Mayor de Blasio mention a need for us all supporting her or her family? Were not three families directly affected by the killing spree? Do they not matter? It may seem like Im niggling about minor details of his condolences and not embracing the overall conciliatory tone, but not so. I understand hes attempting to offer words of comfort, but his phrasing is a might political and problematic. Yes, we should focus on ALL of the grieving families, but putting a moratorium on protests will not put a moratorium on the reasons people are protesting. #dontBSyourself
