Ok. I gave you fair warning. I am going to complete my thoughts - TopicsExpress

Ok. I gave you fair warning. I am going to complete my thoughts about “change” from this morning. My serious thoughts. Just view the prior post as an introduction.... Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Believers find comfort in this truth about the character and nature of God. Rightly so. When you are looking for an anchor in a fractured, schizophrenic world, then the immovable, immutable God is the anchor to hold. Yesterday, today and forever, I would assume, are not actual realities in heaven, but are only earthly words used to describe the passing of time for humans. The creation of the sun and moon were God’s tools for this world that would need some measurement standard for its future. God is time-less. We find comfort in not having a sovereign who is whimsical, unpredictable, and mischievous in His sovereignty. And in His sovereign love, God has offered grace; redemption and the forgiveness of sin to all people through Christ. Yet, even though God’s love will never falter, the gracious gifts extended by that love are “for a limited time only”, because other attributes of the unchanging God impose a necessary time limit. God is love, yes, but God is Truth. God is Righteous. God is Just. The unchanging character of God that offers forgiveness and grace to the repentant sinner (love), is also the unchanging character that will not fail to punish the unrepentant sinner, after a time that God deems right. (justice) God is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance. And so for a time, God withholds His ultimate judgment. But don’t mistake God’s patience as a “change” in God’s character. The very truth of God’s immutability that gives us peace, courage, strength and hope in this shifting sand world, is also the truth that should stir sinners to fear and to repentance, for God will not be mocked, and whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For this reason I preach the Gospel wherever I can. For this reason, I ache, mourn and pray for people in my life who willfully choose to live apart from God, who is their heartbroken father waiting for them to come home, but who also is the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the unchanging God who will practice justice. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Name Him as your Lord today. You will be forgiven of yesterday and freely given forever.
