Ok, I have to share this! I got a text and was asked to go to lunch today. I said sure why not. She has asked several other times and it just hasnt worked out. She is an attractive women (at least to me) and we have only met briefly in person a few times. We have had some good intellectual conversations online and over the phone. I felt like we had a good connection! So back to the lunch. So we met at nice place in town. (I wont use names) I greeted her at the door, she gave me a hug and a small kiss on the cheek. She ordered a glass of wine and an appetizer. She smelled great and had smile to die for! She talked about sports her favorite teams and how she has never been to Fenway park! Being a guy and totally into sports Im thinking DREAM GIRL! I told her I had some photos out in my car of Fenway Park from last years game 6 of the World Series. She was generally excited to see the photos and she asked me to go grab them. I have been take some photography classes so I was just as excited to show them. She let go of my hand as she was holding it lightly from across the table the entire time so I could go grab the photos. (Right at this point the waitress came over and she ordered another glass of wine to go with her Caesar salad and another beer for me.) I didnt have far to go as I parked just out side the front door of the restaurant. You could clearly see my van from our table. I reached into my vehicle grab my portfolio and headed back into the restaurant. I went to sit down and before I did she said with a extremely disappointed face,Oh you drive a Mini Van! There was a an awkward moment of silence. (It seemed like an hour!) She went to the ladies room. I sat there thought about what just happen. I thought about all the post that I have read on Gerald Rogers Facebook. (Post that has been very inspirational to me Personally, I might add) She returned to the table. The smile was gone, the conversation got really dry and she never took my hand again. We finished our lunch. My mind was whirlwind of thoughts and I didnt dare open my mouth because I was afraid of what I might say! At that moment her phone started to buzz; I looked over at it and saw a text message that said, A MINI VAN She quickly grabbed her phone and looked over at me. I pretended I didnt see what it said. I cant describe how bad I wanted to say something out load. But I didnt! There was another awkward moment of silence that seemed to never end. The waitress came over and asked if we were all set and if we would like our bill. With everything going around in my head I quickly said yes and could you split that for us! If looks could kill I would probably be dead! She brought over two separate checks. I paid mine with cash and gave her a nice tip! The waitress and I stood there and watched as my lunch date search through her purse for money. At one point she was counting change and from what I could see she was about 15 bucks short! It wasnt more than 20 seconds, but it must have felt like an hour to her! I reached into my pocket and gave the waitress another fifty dollar bill to pay for her meal. I politely look over at her and said dont worry about it you can get the bill next time! Knowing that there will probably never be an next time. We did walk out together and she gave me a half hearted hug goodbye. I will probably lose a Facebook friend today after she reads this! But before I do I just wanted to say Yes! I drive a Dodge Grand Caravan, it has been up and down the east coast and halfway across the country several times! It has attended more soccer, baseball, basketball, football and dance compositions than I can count! I have spent more quality time with my kids in this Mimi Van than some parents do at home! The comfort of my family is more important to me than living up to some stereo type, wannabe image! I have many memories and this Mini Van was the vehicle that drove us too them! I want you to know that you looked beautiful today and that I enjoyed most of our lunch together! Your fake diamond ear rings, glass pearl necklace and the knock off Coach bag didnt change my opinion of you. Im sorry but I dont let material things influence my personal opinion or judgement of a person character and heart! Unfortunately it is a habit for people to surround themselves with people and or things that reflect who they are! I personally try to look past all that stuff and give people at chance. With that said, sometimes things are exactly what they seem to be! Oh, and we never did look at the photos!
