Ok I might get shot for this.. I went to buy some fresh produce the other day and the young girl serving me dropped the food on the floor and right in front of me picked it up and proceeded to wash it with water coming from a hose and place it in the same bag. I ark up and she takes the food item out of the bag and throws it (yes throws) back into the display. I was in complete shock - I ask her if shes serious??? She gets confrontational and responds in a smart ass way... Oh yeah? wrong move to the wrong person biiiiyaaaatch... lol... I grab her boss and in a couple of words let him know what happened, he too gets irate and lets her know shes in major trouble. I laugh and feel satisfied having checked little miss gross... Heres the interesting part: being that the girl was Asian (Chinese) and the racist climate going on in Melbourne - she offered the perfect opportunity for anyone to start a rant about the stereotypes surrounding Asians and food practices OR lucky for her in my non racist mind it just reflected the stupidity of one young dumb girl.. Which brings me to the topic of the woman having a racist rant on the train.. Yes it was horrific, abusive and disgusting - However behind the racism lies good old fashion frustration!!! Perhaps if the frustration was treated the rants wouldnt be happening so frequently... I blame the government for being a major contributor to this womans frustration and the ignorance circulating. I see this frustration rising more and more each day.. Where does it stem from? It stems from Cultural differences. Differences in political, moral, hygiene and etiquette standards. When handing out visas to new migrant groups there should be better education provided on Australian idiosyncrasies. E.g. Picking your nose in public or hurling and spitting might be normal in some countries but it is something Australians find revolting. Speaking now from a survival perspective - not racial.. We all want to protect the society our children are growing up in, so anything that enhances our society we condone and anything that diminishes the quality of our society obviously pisses us off! Moral of my story: Knowing / Understanding what pisses each culture off will create less frustration towards each other!!
