Ok I think its been long enough now, Ive tried to keep quiet and take no notice of it since looking into it myself but now I see literally about 70% of all my Facebook friends doing this and Ive just had about enough really. Yes people, I am talking about the ALS Ice Buchet Challenge. I just hope that all of you doing this amazing and life changing challenge will actually realize that as of 2012, ALSA (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association) has directed only 7.71% of its budget to Research. And not only that, 63.63% of their budget for the fiscal year was dedicated to Other Program Activities. Now, Im not going to guess what those other programs are, but they sure are not research. And administrative cost? 10.54% and only 18.11% for fundraising. What does this mean? That out of the £100 one would give to this organization £7.71 of it would go to research, thats about as much as a test tube costs. Instead of donating and/or surviving off expiate which will account for only 7% research, donate to MNDA UK, which is the UK charity for Motor Neuron Disease. According to this, MNDA used 77% of their income on charitable activities and 19% fundraising so not too bad at all considering the corrupted world of charities we live in. I used to work for charities in the past (needless to say I dont anymore) and youd be surprised how much of donated money actually goes to the cause itself. Not that much at all. You can check out any charity here on The Charity Commission website charitycommission.gov.uk/find-charities/ Also, people just give it a break already, its like the Neck Nomination all over again, I mean there is just no need to waste anymore water and ice, yes it looks fun and it looks cool kinda embarrassing that it makes you want to do it as well and hey all your friends are doing it and youve been nominated to do it ohhhh so you got to do it right!? Well in that case I challenge YOU to do something more significant instead, like donate blood or give some old clothes to a shelter home or adopt an animal with no home or just buy a homeless person some food or something that would make ME watch it and go hey, that person has a big heart and I wish to do the same and get my mates to do it as well so the world can be a better place. Anyone is free to challenge me to do anything in the name of a good cause, I dont mind, give me something interesting to do and Ill do it. I donated to charities in the past and still do, not so much now I confess as I never seem to have money these days but if I ever feel shit or down I do a good thing or donate to a charity because someone somewhere in the world is feeling alot worse than me and they need all the help they can get from the likes of me who are lucky to be donating money in the first place if given the chance to do so. Thats my opinion on this whole issue in a nut shell. P.S. This video I am posting is one of my favourite things on the internet and this guy is an absolute hero, I thought of doing something like this for a long time after the Ice Bucket Chalenge came out and then I came across this video and I was so glad that someone somewhere in the world thinks on the same level as me and has decided to take and put a viral phenomenon to some ACTUAL good use. Fair play to this guy he has my full respect. P.P.S. I see myself getting absolutely slated for posting this but I dont really care, I just had to write something about this whole issue, the world is seriously worrying me right now, just to put some of my worries into perspective: ALS kills 5,600 people annually, no water or dirty water kills 33,000,000 people annually. Let that sink in before you start an argument against me for writing this. Do your best but please do your own research first, by all means, dont trust me, see it for yourself. Peace x
