Ok, Im going on record as that trainer. One of the ones that is bringing about the downfall or our beloved industry but I feel strongly enough to say it loud and proud : let me start with I think EVERYONE should do resistance training, whether it be Bodyweight or free weights (or machines in the case of post injury rehab.) Now with that out of the way: if you WANT to do Zumba, or yoga, or kickboxing or spin class or hell, underwater basket weaving, KNOCK YOURSELF OUT! Find your soul mate workout and pour your all into it. Your soul mate workout should feel so invigorating that missing it would cause more stress than getting there to take it. Your soul mate workout has you pushing yourself so hard youre panting, dripping with sweat and smiling because damn it all to hell, you just accomplished something amazing. I dont care if your soul mate workout is spin, PiYo live, Rizzmic, walking, running, jogging, Zumba or lifting blessed weights. Hell I dont care if your soul mate workout is crossfit, p90x or insanity: JUST MOVE! Find pleasure in your body in motion. Find strength in accomplishing something that was tough. Try to do more every single time. Push to be just a little better than you were the last time you got on the mat/floor/put your shoes on. Just a tiny bit better... Incremental improvements. By the time you look away from trying to be better, youll be amazed at how far youve come... And, if youre soul mate workout isnt resistance training, humor me every once in a while. Pick up something heavy and move it. It doesnt count if its lighter than your purse/wallet/can of beer.
