Ok...Im watching the news now surrounding the Bergdahl situation. Ive seen comments from his brothers in arms in text and via video on the news and my blood is starting to boil. I wasnt there just like none of you were, but the case is starting to become pretty compelling that this man walked away from his post willingly. He was allegedly learning Dari, and Pashto which are the regionally spoken languages in his area. He packed up personal gear, uniforms, and personal items and mailed them home, and his note basically denouncing the U.S. mission in the region makes it pretty hard to doubt that he walked away and may have even wanted to change sides. The Taliban probably saw a bargaining chip and didnt trust him enough to recruit him due to their own security concerns...and it appears that their gamble paid off. Looks like we get our traitor back and they get back five of their highly trained, highly capable, highly intelligent...and heres the irony...highly dedicated insurgent comrades. More than we can say that we got out of the trade. I wish I could say that I am refraining from passing judgment early on this, but I cant...because Im not. Sgt. Bergdahl is starting to look like a horrible representation of his brothers and sisters in arms who willingly don a uniform every day and put themselves in harms way willingly and consistently. Walking away from your post is reprehensible...and Im being very nice when I say that...in all actuality, when I think about the possibility of him leaving willingly expecting to join the enemy or get asylum from them...and then I think of those that potentially died looking for him...it makes me want to throw up in my mouth. His day of accountability has not come so maybe I am a bit premature. Im willing to take that risk though because with the way this whole thing is being handled I think it highly possible that he may never have to answer for his actions. What a sad day for the United States Armed Forces and what a sad day for America...with the exception of the Bergdahl family. Welcome home Sgt. Bergdahl, Im glad you are going to be reunited with your family and Im glad that your personal ordeal is over. From one service member to another though, I think you know that is hard for me to have any respect for you beyond that bittersweet welcome if your allegations of desertion are true.
