Ok.. Its time for another of those Only In Nashville stories. I went to the Country Music Hall Of Fame this afternoon for a Poets and Prophets performance by songwriter Gretchen Peters. (Independence Day, The Chill Of An Early Fall, Let That Pony Run, You Dont Even Know Who I Am.. And many more.) It was a wonderful performance with a lot of music and stories about how those songs were written. Just a remarkable experience for anyone who is interested in songwriting. It must have been the place to be in Nashville today. In the audience were Roger Cook, Sam Baker, Mary Gauthier, and many more of my favorite people/performers .. including John & Fiona Prine.. I got to shake hands with John as I was leaving, and told him Id be sure and tell Reeda about it. But as I was leaving I was walking by this beautiful woman. I thought I recognized her, but wasnt sure, because every time Id seen her before she was in makeup and in costume.. So I finally just asked.. Are you Minton? Minton Sparks does performance art.. Story telling in a wonderful way. Part of her show is Mammas Purse.. When I was at one of her shows at The Station Inn, sitting in the front row, she leaned over and said Would you hold this for me? and handed me her white purse. Later on in the show she did Mammas Purse. Today I got to tell her how much I loved her work, and what a thrill it was for me to hold that purse.. I could tell it meant a lot to her, and it meant even more to me. If you like John Prine, and I know you do.. I think youll like Minton. https://youtube/watch?v=kW6RYjruoKo
