Ok... Ive read some really scathing things about Joel Osteen and his recent purchase of a really expensive home. But Im going to say something on his behalf... Sort of... Ive got a lot of respect for the guy. From what I understand, he doesnt make any money from the church itself. His money is made from book sales and tours. So saying hes not entitled to that money is like saying Stephen King and Ozzy Osbourne dont deserve their money. (Yeah, that comparison just happened) Ive watched him speak and Ive read his words and the guy really has a good thing going. He can bring you out of a funk quicker than anyone Ive ever seen. Ive also seen an astonishing dislike for the guy from both fundamental Christians AND atheists. And I dont get that. Heres why... Atheists: From my knowledge of the word of God, there is a lot of guilt and shame. Everything he says is intended to make you feel good about yourself and the life you live. Fundamental Christians: He teaches us to swim in the glory of our personal accomplishments and to strive to make the most of what God has given us. And he stands firmly behind the institution of faithfulness and decency and traditional upbringing. Hes everything to everyone! But hes not a preacher. Hes a motivational speaker. And hes earned every dollar hes got. But thats just, like, my opinion, man.......
