Ok. Let me present you the Island of Martinique ( in French = la Martinique [ lamarrtinik] ( situated in the French Indies or Petites Antilles [ petitt z antiy ] or Antilles [ Antiy ] / West Indies , in the south of the Island of Guadeloupe, Cuba and Florida ) . I went there in 2010. ( holidays) and as every French territory ( like Hawaii towards the States) it is often small volcano islands with great sunny beaches . Its capital is Fort-de-France ( in creole ( pidgin) fodfwans) , and it has got wonderful touristic spots like the Balata Garden, the town of Saint-Pierre [ sen pyayrr ] ( St Peter) and the wonderful beach of the Salines ( with too, la Baignoire Josephine) . White and colored people live there ( white people are often ex military soldiers or people who is retired , or children of them) . They all speak French.. but.. the local pidgin called Creole martiniquais ( martinique pidgin) is very popular above all in Zouk love music.. and it enters the global tradition of Black Americans ( even if people there , is not black but metis ) . In the villages of its island, it still exist .. the Caribbean old tradition which is closed to hoodoo and vaudoo ( like in Louisiana for instance). Some black people are racist.. but in a territory where there is a traditional majority, it s a sort of natural sentiment and fear. Well, it is a wonderful island nicknamed l ile aux fleurs [ leel o fleurr] ( the island of flowers) due to its botanic richness. Saint Pierre was a typical colonial town but it was destroyed in 1901 by the big volcano of this island named la Montagne Pelee [ la m on tany pele] ( Mount Pelee/the Peeled mountain). Now it is a new town but ruins can be visited. ( there the sand is dark) The marketplace of Fort de France is very typical and popular around the statue of Josephine de Beauharnais ( who was the imperess of France, Napoleon Bonapartes wife in the 19th century) but its statue has no more its head because it was destroyed by the local independant movement . There exist wild small animals which may be mortal for the Man.. and the hospitals are not always ok. In creole we say = matinik , mwen inme w ( je t aime = I love you ) .
